ChatGPT and Gemini do allow you to sign in to Proselon on their free tier. However, there's only enough credits on their free tier to write for fifteen or so minutes, and that's with a blank project. Free plans come with small usage limits and a real drafting session reaches them quickly. The way to write all day without paying anyone is to run a local model through Ollama or LM Studio, where there is nothing to pay and no usage limit at all, though we've had trouble identifying a local model small enough to run on most computers that also has the agentic capabilities Proselon needs. Maybe in a few years...

Yes. Proselon doesn't require an API key to work, but if you would rather run the co-writer on your own key, Proselon accepts that too, whether from OpenRouter, xAI, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Everything about the app behaves identically, provided you choose a compatible model.

Yes. Ask within 30 days of a charge and you get it back. No reason needed, no form, no retention script. Email us and we reverse it. Surprise charges are hard to come by in the first place, since the 30-day trial takes no credit card, we email you before your first charges, and cancelling is one click from your billing portal. Whatever happens with the billing, your manuscript is plain files in a folder you chose, and a refund never touches your book.

If you decide to leave Proselon or heaven forbid, we go out of business, you won't lose your work, because your work isn't ours to lose. Your manuscripts are a folder of Markdown files on your own computer, and it stays there whether you cancel tomorrow or we close down. There is no server to retrieve it from and no window in which to rescue it before something deletes it. There is an Export button in the app, which will package your work as Word, .epub, .html, or Markdown, but even if you lose the app, your Markdown files will still be on your computer, along with your version history. Your work is safe in your hands.

Never by us. Proselon doesn't upload your book, and we don't train anything on your writing. The one place we see your pages is a session recording of the app's window, where recording is on, and we watch those only to find where Proselon gets in writers' way. PostHog, which stores them, deletes each one after a month, and you can turn recording off at proselon.com/account/privacy.

Whether your writing engine provider trains on it is another matter. Each provider sets its own training policy, ordinarily a setting in your account there and often different by plan. Free tiers are likelier to train on conversations, paid and business plans less so. It is the same policy that already governs your direct chats with that AI, so check the setting once and it covers both. When the answer has to be a flat no, run a local model through Ollama or LM Studio. It learns nothing and sends nothing anywhere.

Yes, but whether or not we recommend that depends on what you mean by "generate a book for me."

Sometimes when people ask this, they mean: can AI write my ideas out for me while I make all the creative decisions and still do the driving work of telling the story? In that case, yes, it can, and that's what it was built for.

If your question is whether you can give it a brief for a direct-to-Kindle ebook and have it produce something according to that brief, then yes, it can do that too, but we are currently undecided as to whether we support that. Proselon is designed to write alongside you, not produce direct-to-Kindle genre work on a pipeline. (We won't drop you as a customer if you do, but we aren't actively supporting that use case).

Yes, though this is not legal advice and ought to be taken as orientation rather than counsel. In the United States copyright protects human authorship, and the question has never been whether AI was involved but what you contributed. Everything you wrote, and everything you substantively rewrote in your own words, is yours, and so is the shape of the book — your plot, your characters, the selection and arrangement of the whole. What does not qualify is prose you prompted and kept as it arrived, and on registration you are required to disclose AI-generated material and leave it out of the claim. This is among the reasons Proselon keeps a complete version history of your book. It amounts to a dated, continuous record of the drafting and revision, in a standard open format sitting in your own folder, which you can hand to a lawyer should your authorship ever be questioned. No. What the providers forbid, in the letter of their terms and in every account they have suspended, is software that lifts a sign-in token out of the provider's own program and presents it from elsewhere, or that pools one subscription among many people. Proselon does neither. You sign into the provider's own program on your own computer, that program stays exactly as the provider shipped it, and Proselon runs it for you. Nothing about your account passes through us. Provider by provider, as of September 2026.

ChatGPT. OpenAI's terms contain no clause against other software at all, and its head of core products has said in public, three times this year, that using a ChatGPT plan through other software is fine, drawing the line at pooling a subscription across many users.

Claude. Anthropic's page on the subject now says in so many words that its rules do not prevent a user from signing into the unmodified program with their own subscription, even where another product hosts it. The co-writer's chat window drives that same program behind a window, which rests on a rule Anthropic has left less settled, and should Anthropic settle it the other way, the Claude co-writer falls back to the writing room, which is squarely permitted.

Grok. xAI documents running its program inside other applications and has itself walked users through signing a third-party agent into a SuperGrok account.

Gemini. Google is the exception. Its terms for Gemini say that third-party software may not access the service, and Google has suspended accounts on that ground. We offer Gemini Antigravity in the writing room only, so that choosing it is a decision you make with that knowledge.

Yes. A fanfic is a book like any other so far as Proselon is concerned, and the long serial, which is fandom's native form, is precisely the case it was built for. The co-writer reads what it needs from your chapters rather than attempting to hold the whole thing in its head, and the Story State ledger keeps the details straight at chapter one hundred. Your writing lives as plain files on your own computer, and we place no restrictions on what you write.

Proselon itself places no restrictions on your writing. No filters, no scanning, no content rules. Your files are yours, on your own computer. The co-writer is where it depends. The signed-in engines, which is to say Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok, apply their own content policies exactly as they do when you chat with them directly, so mature themes are ordinarily fine while fully explicit scenes vary by provider. If you want a co-writer bound by no such rules, run an unfiltered model either locally or through an API key. You pick the model, and it's limits are the only limits.
